Why am I passionate about this?

Ever since I could read, I have found myself finding security and escape through the words on the paper. As I grew older, I no longer wanted to just read these realities, I wanted to create them for myself. Writing is the one thing in my mundane existence that has made me feel like more than just a number in the system. I laugh with my characters and love with them. My writing is a part of me that will live long after I am gone. Whether it be a novel, or a simple letter, I want my words to linger with the reader long after the page is turned.

Book cover of Shatter Me

Katerina St Clair Why did I love this book?

Shatter Me is one of the most groundbreaking dystopian novels to hit the YA section of any bookstore. She created a world that spoke to my heart, through its originality as well as its diverse character arcs.

Mafi's writing skillfully weaves a gripping tale of dystopia, blending thrilling plotlines, intense romance, and a deep exploration of societal chaos. Juliette's world, painted with Mafi's poetic prose, felt like a refuge where I could truly immerse myself within Julliette’s character.

The unexpected twists left me breathless, creating a connection with the characters that lingered long after I closed the book. The romantic elements, filled with passion and vulnerability, drew me as a reader in, leaving me feeling as if I was in the relationships myself. Mafi's portrayal of a dystopian society made me reflect on power and control in our own world.

Shatter Me isn't just a must-read; it's a personal journey, a blend of suspense, romance, and dystopian allure that perfectly suits my literary taste.

Book cover of Divergent

Katerina St Clair Why did I love this book?

Veronica Roth's Divergent is like a loyal companion that stuck by me during the unpredictable ride of middle school.

Tris Prior's journey felt strangely familiar, like a reflection of my own struggles—moving from vulnerability to discovering an inner strength I never knew existed. Roth crafted Tris into more than just a character; she became someone I looked up to, a personal source of motivation. The whole faction system, sorting people based on traits, hit close to home, echoing my own battles with fitting in.

In the maze of adolescence, Tris's rebellion and acceptance of her divergence felt like a reassuring guide through my own self-discovery. Divergent was groundbreaking for its time, making it a comfort and a source of courage when times got tough.

Veronica Roth's storytelling, paired with Tris's tenacity, turned a dystopian tale into a deeply personal journey through identity, resilience, and survival.

Book cover of The Hunger Games

Katerina St Clair Why did I love this book?

The Hunger Games is a gripping experience that really got under my skin.

The whole idea of the Hunger Games hit me square in the gut, making me think hard about how far we could go for entertainment. Katniss Everdeen, with her gutsy determination and sacrifices, felt like a reflection of strength we do not often see in our current society. Her strength became a source of inspiration that went beyond the pages.

Collins' portrayal of this eerie dystopian world hit too close to the reality we have currently found ourselves in, making me shiver at the thought that our world might not be so far from the fictional edge. The Hunger Games is a rollercoaster that got me questioning, reflecting, and realizing the strength we carry in the face of tough times and social construct.

Katerina St Clair Why did I love this book?

Maze Runner was a wild ride I couldn't put down. The plot's originality had me hooked with all its twists and turns, turning it into this page-turner I couldn't resist. Dashner's maze world? Pure genius.

Every mystery unfolding kept me racing through the pages, completely caught up in the characters' urgency and the need to unravel the maze's secrets. It felt like a personal challenge, a puzzle I just had to solve.

Dashner's talent for keeping the suspense alive made the whole experience immersive, and I couldn't help but appreciate the intricate plot. Maze Runner is a personal victory, and a story that grabbed me and held on tight until the very end.

Book cover of The Giver

Katerina St Clair Why did I love this book?

Lois Lowry's The Giver was like a friend in middle school who opened my eyes in a way no other story has.

The whole dystopian society thing isn't just a background for the story—it's a mirror reflecting the messiness of our own world through a new lens. Jonas, the main protagonist, isn't like every stereotypical teen in a novel; he's someone I felt like I was walking alongside, sharing his journey for truth.

Lowry's storytelling made me feel the dystopian vibe in a way that got me thinking about fitting in and being myself. The Giver wasn't just a way to escape reality; it was a journey that stuck with me, making me ponder its words long after I left English class.

It's not just any book I was given to research, it's like this timeless adventure into what it means to be human. If you want something that's uniquely yours, The Giver is where it's at, trust me.

Why am I passionate about this?

My faith is a driving force in my life. Writing and dragons are my passions after my family. When not writing I mentor young people in their own writing. I’ve taken several writing courses and continue to study and work on honing my craft. Dragons serve as messengers of God in my books. I studied dragon lore and found the dragons an excellent vehicle for sharing God’s message. The dragons play a sentient, teaching, guiding role in the books they are featured in. That doesn’t mean there aren’t bad dragons to challenge the characters and the good dragons.
